Phoenix lived from her landing date of May 25, 2008 through the final attempts to ping the lander this February.
After numerous additional attempts to contact the lander around the Martian summer solstice, a point where the most sunlight hits the landers solar cells, JPL declared the lander dead. Still, the lander functioned for 5 months, well over the 90 days it was planned to serve.
Amatuer astronomer maps Mars from images taken with his CCD and homemade 222mm newtonian telescope. Images were taken over 3 month period and combined in software to generate a cylindrical projection.
